Do I have to explain this one?

This afternoon I was doing a couple quick housekeeping chores before the big kids arrived off the bus including trying to hit a couple kitchen windows with window cleaner so the sun could actually come thru the finger smuges.  When the following chain of events occured:

Three year old yells for help from the bathroom

  • Check the baby who is happy in the swing and go to bathroom aid
  • Help with “finishing duties” and uhhh need to clean the toilet after someones good attempt
  • He leaves the bathroom, I grab the cleaner and start to clean the toilet
  • Phone rings
  • Wash my hands quick quick
  • Grab the phone while checking baby
  • Teacher explaining that 6 year old decided to cut his hair with friends during school - baby starts to cry- pick up baby and place on breast so I can hear the teacher as she explains that he wasn’t the master brain but merely succumbed to peer pressure.
  • With phone in crook of neck, baby on breast, grab the cleaning supplies to put back above washer
  • Get off phone, sigh and think how I should approach son when he returns from school about cutting hair with school scissors when I KNOW HE KNOWs better.
  • Return to kitchen- three year old had picked up my windex- yes where I had left it to go help him in the bathroom and he has officially COVERED the kitchen door with half a bottle of window cleaner that is now dripping down the door and puddled on the tile. “I helping mommy”.

hmm… my fault for leaving the window cleaner and I do let the kids help clean the windows at times so I keep my cool and thank for his help but state that we need to save some cleaner for the other windows. I put baby down  and grab some paper towels to start mopping the door when I realize that the window cleaner was actually making the paint peel off the door!  Yes, the door now has stripes where the drips flowed and as I wipe as gently as possible all the paint starts to peel off.

How will I explain this one to my husband? I wonder if I can get the door repainted before he gets home in five hours and decide that it just won’t happen.  Add that to my list for weekend chores and tell him I had wanted to change the color anyway.
