Giving in to the addiction….

Hi! If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. You'll get all my posts plus private posts plus special offers I occasionally share with my subscribers for free!

All three of my children are head over heals for the world of webkinz. OK, well the 2 year old just goes along with the big kids- and that alone is funny to watch.  For those that do not know what a webkinz is, well it’s the next fad like cabbage patch dolls or beanie babies.  Webkinz are a collection of stuffed animals that come with a secret code. Kids then can log onto webkinz world, adopt their pet using the secret code- name it and then earn money and things to keep it happy and healthy.

I never thought I would be one of those parents to give in to a fad, but honestly, it’s one activity that my son and daughter can do together, not fight and actually work together.  I feel comfortable that it’s a safe internet space for them and it offers some value with earning money and making decisions on what you can buy or adding/subtracting to find out what you need to earn and it had some spelling and general quizzes.

Well, the webkinz pets have been out of stock everywhere for a couple months unless your willing to pay incredible prices online for them-and I will not go that far into the craze. I walked into the Tatnuck book store yesterday to set up for an event and there they were- a shipment of webkinz. Not knowing the exact preferences, I set up my table then left to pick the kids up at school asking them for their choices. Wouldn’t you know that by the time I returned to the store their choices were being carried around the store by other parents. UGHH.  Why? Why do I let myself get into this fuzzy child addiction? I have fought off the croc craze and held off on the Pokemon craze until a couple months ago. But I guess the bottom line is why my parents gave into my cabbage patch love when I was young. These crazy little animals do make my kids happy and are loyal lovies at night or when they need a little pick me up.

I ended up buying a few different webkinz animals that were on the shelf and made it clear when I came home that there were to be no tantrums and they happily agreed. They couldn’t wait to “adopt” them and start adding fun things to their rooms and feeding them their favorite foods.

While my husband shook his head at me in disappointment that I had given in to this fad I admit I did feel a little guilty. I don’t like buying things for the kids “just because”.  I hope that the pictures and the memories of their little webkinz lovies will bring a smile when they are grown up just like I do when I look at my cabbage patch dolls that my mom still has on display in a high chair at her house.

    Hi there,

I know what you went through when trying to buy a webkinz pet. I did the same thing trying to get one for my daughter.

I found http://www.buy-webkinz.net who stock them from $19.95 and had it delivered in 3 days which I thought was good.

How old were your children? My daughter is 7.

I have a daughter that is 7, and two boys that are 5 and 2 with baby #4 due in August. My five year old is actually more into the webkinz then my daughter, who would have guessed? He brings his one super precious favorite cow to school in his backpack everyday and I’m told that he’ll just walk by his cubby to give it a little comforting pet every now and then and feels better it’s there.

Got something to say?
