newborn Tanner

Tanner Alice arrived at 4:55 pm on August 23rd

7.15 lbs 20 inches long - the smallest of all four babies by a full pound!

It was a quick delivery for our little bundle of joy.  It’s always an amazing feeling finding out who was giving you all the pushes and kicks and I had to ask and be re-assured at least five times that it was a girl. I had the feeling for the last six months it was a girl but couldn’t believe it.

This labor was of course different then all the others- I had to do the dreaded Pitocin drip again and they broke my water at 1:00.  The contractions were uncomfortable but I was able to manage with my own breathing technique and counting.  I only got REALLY mad once at my husband near the end when I wanted him to count for me so I could focus on his words and he was too busy talking about motorcycles with the nurse and kept forgetting….. HELLOOOOO MEEE here… bringing this new life into the world in a very uncomfortable way…. Count, god damn it, count, from 1 to 10 NOT HARD!!!

I dilated from 4 cm to 10cm in a matter of half hour and the resident didn’t believe me so upon urging from the nurses she called my doctor in his office. TOO LATE… she turned to sheer panick when she realized that the baby was already crowning and my doctor left the nurse on the phone hanging as he made the run for my room.  He arrived to relieve the poor girl without even having time to put his gloves on. Two pushes and that part of my job was done, so much better then the full 2 hours of pushing during my first delivery!

I made it, drug free, with a healthy little girl and a whole lifetime of experiences to look forward to.

He admits (yes, after the delivery was done) that he dropped the ball on this so I can’t hold a grudge.
